Teak (Sagwan) and Anjan are the dominant tree species, alongside Ain, Dhavada, Palash and other native hardwoods typical of the central Indian dry-deciduous belt. Species are added and verified through the CMS — the department’s verified list only.

Key trees & plants

  • Teak (Tectona grandis) — the dominant hardwood; centuries-old stands in the Satpura foothills.
  • Anjan (Hardwickia binata) — hardy, drought-tolerant, co-dominant with teak.
  • Ain (Terminalia elliptica) — common in the dry-deciduous mix.
  • Dhavada (Anogeissus latifolia) — indicator of dry deciduous forest.
  • Palash (Butea monosperma) — the “flame of the forest”, vivid in spring.
  • Grasses & scrub — mixed grasses and scrub in the drier sanctuary margins.

Why it matters

Ambabarwa and Dnyanganga’s status as buffer areas of the Melghat Tiger Reserve makes Buldhana’s forests part of a much larger conservation corridor across central India, helping maintain genetic connectivity for tigers, leopards and other wide-ranging species. Medicinal-plant listings, if published, come from the department’s records.
